leaches in my tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
what do they look like [may not be leaches if no recent additions to the tank]?

how big is your tank
what is the substrate

i had a similar problem there were like hundreds of leech in my tank
i got rid of them in one shot :D

I just changed from a 55G with sand(they were in the sand too) to a 100G with gravel, i only see them in my filters now even tho i soaked the filter medium in boiling water for a few mins(i know it kills the bacteria but i wanted those things gone) it got rid of them for a while but they are back now, although they are not in the gravel as far as i have seen, is there something i can put in my tank to get rid of them without harming my fish and plants????

a lot of people think this is planaria, but leeches can actually get in your tank tank. They were probably introducted through food/something else you recently added. There is a brand name medicine made for koi ponds called dipterex (it's actually trichlorofon) that .25 ml per liter of water will do the trick. If you see them on your fish, take the fish out and do a salt dip to loosen their hold on them. That way they will etiher fall off, or you can pull them off with tweezers.

What are you feeding your fish? Anything live? I remember when I first started keeping fish, I was about 10 years old. I didn't know much and I would by live tubifex worms. I soon realized that they are really dirty and had leeches mixed in. I picked out all the leeches and never fed anything live again. Whether it's tubifex worms, brine shrimp, feeders, etc... I've never fed live food again. Dried food is also more nutritious. The Doctor.

what i did was removed all the water except for 2 inches of water and the sand in the tank
threw in 2kg of salt and stirred the tank well and left it like that for like 30mins
and then removed the water and reduced the salt content and then added water and removed till the water did not taste too salty and then there were no leech any more in the tank
