Hey guys looking at buying a canister this week and im new to them, is it easy for the canisters to start leaking or drain water onto the floor, like do accidents happen often if at all, what are some suggestions to prevent it? And how easy are canisters to setup. do you recommend i get any type of clams along with the canister?

also how do u clean canisters?

my canister has a liittle rubber gasket around the top. never had any leaks but i have it set inside a flat tupperware bowl just incase

what if it was to leak lol it would flood everything what will Tupperware do, also what do u mean by rubber gasket may i see a pic, and how do you clean the canisters, worryed about leakage my rents would kill me!

were the top part and the canister part clip together, there is a little rubber gasket, kinda like a thermostat gasket on a car. it wont leak, i have no problem with mine. cleaning is as easy is taking the top off the filter, pulling the basket out and changing the white filter pad. i have had mine for i think 5 months and only done it twice. its very easy. when you get it, pm me and ill walk you threw what to do. but it wnt leak. as long as you have the suction cup things it comes with on the inlet and outlet tubes securely, youll be fine

Leaking depends on the canister and how careful you are.
They won't leak by themselves unless they're defective or the rubber seals get old and crack.

A good canister (such as the rena xp series) has a quick-disconnect that will detach the tank from the canister without allowing you to make a mess.
A cheap canister sometimes just has valves on the disconnects, and you have to close the valves and remove the power in the right order to avoid allowing any water to go on the floor.

ANY canister will leak if you forget to properly close it after cleaning.

In order to clean a canister, you disconnect it from the tank, unplug it, take it to a sink, open it and remove the media baskets, dump the water out of the filter, wash the mechanical media in the sink or with a hose outside, and rinse the bio media in tank water. You then replace the media in the filter, preferably fill the filter with dechlorinated water, reattach it to the tank, and plug it in.

If your water isn't chlorinated, take it outside and take the hose to all the media. Thoroughly clean the mechanical, lightly spray the bio.
