ohio
a friend is giving me a 55 leaker for free
he said he resealed it, but hadnt tested it

obviously i will be careful, but how can i check to see if its resealed properly?
what can i do if it isnt?
if it holds water now, will it for good? or is it prone to being a disaster waiting to happen?

push on the center of the seal, if it peels away at the edges of the seal, then no its not.
If its not, razorblade it out, clean, and get silicone I w/o the bioseal, and redo it.
Also if it is sealed correctly, then it will be fine

correct, where was the leak though? and how was the repair done?
as new sealant doesnt stick well to old sealant usually, and if in a corner, you should redo all edges of that corner.
I just redid my whole 55, as it didnt take long to do, and as a result didnt have to worry about cutting properly and far enough from the leak and getting it to correctly seat and seal with the old stuff.

oh i understand. i am picking up the tank tomorrow (hopefully) so i will post its condition, and maybe some pics ...

I have "fixed" 7 cracked aquariums. They are not display tanks but they hold water and I fixed some of them over 3 years ago. No leaks yet.

No way to be sure until its held water for a few weeks.Resealing is pretty easy, just take your time and get it really clean.

I have a 75g in my fishroom with a cracked side,I siliconed a piece of glass from a broken 40 breeder over the cracked glass and its held since last summer.I wouldnt try it on a tank any bigger than that though.
