I got this for free. It has small leak. Should I drop liner in or try and repair with some sort of plastic weld or epoxy?

We get masses of these tubs at work, we call them DOLAVS. They use them in the food industry a lot. They're made of heavy duty HDPE plastic.

One of the quickest ways of mending a small hole or split is to heat seal it with a red hot knife. It's like a crude method of welding, but it can be quite effective. This is good if the hole or split is only small though. However, a gaping hole is going to be tough to treat using this method.

Silicon IS NOT a good idea, it doesn't adhere to plastics that good.

Oh, I used it to fix a crack in one of my tanks so I figured it would work

I do have hot knife. Would you suggest putting any plastic weld in there? It’s a crack. Small

Silicon and glass, yes yes yes, you'll struggle to find a stronger bond anywhere!

Silicon with anything else, not so much. It would only serve as a short term fix, not to be trusted long term.

If it's only small I'd get the knife really hot and sort of use it like spreading butter for want of a better description. Melt the plastic around the area and homogenise it together. When it cools you should have a good repair. It does take a bit of skill though.
