my 40 gallon stated leaking,we went to the pet shop to buy some silicone, the tank was good for maybe a week and tonight(April 22) it started leaking again, now instead are putting more silicone we went to buy a new tank, but just wondering if there was anything else we could of done??

Strip the old silicone and reseal it. New silicone doesn't stick to old silicone very well.
You can also go to the hardware store and get some silicone that's safe for food contact and save a boat load of money.

when you strip the old silicone, make sure to clean surfaces with rubbing alcohol then let it dry before you silicone it. let it sit for 48 hours in room temperature before filling with water. if you get the silicone thick let it set for 3-4 days instead to make sure it has time to cure. for sure reseal it and have it as a back up or quarantine tank, or possibly sell it for half the price of the new one ;) its kind of labor intensive but an easy way to make a buck or 40

There are tons of places in town that will re-seal a tank cheap... I had a 90 Corner tank done a few years ago (didn't feel like playing with it) cost me $35... I've done all my small tanks my self and a couple of my 180's but for the price it was worth taking them in and letting someone else slave over the bigger ones :D
