So I got up yesterday morning to find that my 55 mixed cichlid tank is leaking (somewhere in the bottom seal). :nilly:

I managed to get all the fish transferred into a 30 gallon so I can have a chance to either repair or replace to tank. I spent a couple of hours with a razor blade, mineral spirits and a rag and took off the entire inner seal for the tank, in hopes to reseal it with a new bead. In the process of taking it outside so I could clean it out (not alot of space to do it inside), I managed to put a very small chip about 1/3 of the way up on one of the corners. :irked:

I started filling the tank up (to about the 1/3 mark) with some warm soapy water when *snap* the front pane is now in 2 pieces. I guess I'm now in the market for a new 55 gallon. :(

Anyone know where to find a cheap replacement in the Denver area?

honestly, it isn't worth the effort. I would gather some money and upgrade to a 75g! You would be amazed how the jump from 55 to 75g makes a difference in the fish you can keep!

yikes good luck my friend. im in cali (sorry I cant help find a cheap place) when my 55 broke I had to spend 143 dollars on a glass 60g no stand or lid came with it. I just had to bite the bullet. Good luck and hope you have excellent filtration until then :(

like bderick said--craigslist is a good place to start, also try your local newspaper (they may have a website also with a classified section). sorry about the cracked tank--thats always a bummer.

Thanks. I've talked with two of them before you even posted this. I guess great minds think alike.

I was almost thinking about trying to find a mirror panel to place on the inside of the broken glass pane. I think it could work if sealed properly. I doubt I could find a panel for less than $40 though.

I've thought about upgrading to a 75, but I already have a really nice solid oak stand I want to keep, and don't really want to go through modifying it to allow for the additional 6" depth.

Craigslist here I come....
