leapard vs royal?

to be honest i think its more about which one you like..but id go with a leopard pleco..

They both are not great for cleaning.

Royals have special dietary needs to consider and algae alone will not provide it with what it needs. They are not meant for algae control.

The sail fin will grow fast and start adding huge amounts of waste to your tank. Once they hit a certain size they really don't care for algae they would rather eat prepared fish foods or vegetables ...

People seem to love their BN plecos for algae control. Personally I don't think that's what plecos are meant for.

How bad is the algae that a sponge can't fix?

+1

I don't know any large plecos (past 6-10 inches) that will touch algae.

Edit: Sailfins are cheaper and easier to take care of but will grow very fast.

alage isnt that bad but want something that will eat alage and wont get eaten by my super aggresive 7-8"yellowtail cuda, two 6-7"armatus and three silverdollars one spotted silver dollar and jurapari cichlid

Then you need to find a big common or sail fin. They can hang with most aggressive fish. I just don't know about them doing much about the algae.

I have an 8 inch sailfin and have had since it was a juvenile. Even this large he keeps my 75 gallon clean of algae. Very hardy fish. Lived through a tank of ich twice and takes beatings from my severums. Really hardy pleco. I know nothing of royals except they never come off of the wood at the LFS.
