The Paratheraps fenestratus I posted a while back turned out to be a female. She laid eggs. I generally keep males so I purchased a proven male and tossed it in with the female. She is a little bigger than him, and he was obviously stressed from shipping. I watched them a while and thought things were going okay. I got back a few hours later and the new male was beaten up and scaled. He was hiding near the surface. I have moved him to a divided tank and I've added some salt to the water. I didn't know a female would tear a male up like that upon adding one to the tank. I should have guessed though, I think, because he was really stressed and all from shipping. Hopefully he will heal up quick in a few weeks and I guess I need to find the female a new home. I could divide their tank I guess.

grow out the male, then put him in the tank with the female, divided, let them get used to each other then after a couple weeks give it another go.. By giving him part of the tank the female might not think its all hers anymore which was probably your problem

divide it they will grow on eachother

Thanks folks. Just had to learn it for myself I guess.
