so my power company is taking off the cap of off the meter outside of my house in feb 2010, and they are doing that for everybody in the area. I want to use white led christmas lights in a 29 gallon tank. I have seen how people have built them on here and it seems simple. But theres one thing I cannot figure out, how many of the string of lights do i need. would one string of 60 be fine for a 29 gallon tank. If this works then I want to do the samething on my 75. so all of you led wizards its ur turn to help me out

I took a 10 foot Blue LED Xmas string and folded it twice for my 6foot tank.
I think it has 100 LED's and it's more than enough.
I bundled the LED's somewhat and just threw them on top of my covers!

Just make sure you get the 2 Watt LED's, NOT the 1 Watts!!!
The 2 W will easily penetrate 2 feet if water , while the 1W LED are useless!
Trust me, you will like it very much and nightlights give an extra dimension to your tank.

so i made something up to hold down the leds that i got from walmart and these ones was not bright enough. so i went to lowes and they have led 3.2 watt light but did not have any in stock. So all of you Christmas light led show me some pics of what u guys used to hold them down

as you can see on the pic i used my LED spots to do that, but that's because i only got coverplates, and no hood.
I think there was a good thread about the whole subject last year, I'll see if I can find it.

lol, guess I'm just a little fanatic when it comes to my nightlights.
But it should work, but i think you indeed chose wisely for a higher Wattage...
But I got no expierience using LED's as Daylighting.
