After keeping marine tanks for several years, I've become addicted to the shimmer from single point light source lamps. Returning to freshwater now and set up a 75g SA cichlid tank that's been up for about 3 months now. I've got a pair of Kessil A160 Tuna Sun lights on it. The shimmer is great, it's plenty bright, but the spectrum is SO yellow and the fish's colors do not show well at all under this light. I was thinking of replacing the Tuna Sun with Tuna Blue, but I don't want to end up with a similar problem at the other extreme - everything looking cold and blue... Has anyone here used the Tuna Blue lights on freshwater? If so, how do you like it?
I had a few Aqua Illumination lights many years ago that, while the shimmer was not as intense as on Kessils, the color spectrum was very wide. I also had a pair of Kessil AP700s on my 330g when that was set up, and it seemed the color spectrum on that was much broader than the A160s.
Any suggestions on fixtures to replace or supplement these lights? Maybe just a couple of blue LED strips to go behind each Kessil? Help me throw some more money down this rabbit hole of a hobby!
