  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Not personally, but I have seen it done with success...

^ same, i've not done it, but an LFS i used to know ver well was doing it before he close down his store...

He ran everything from 5W to 20W LED flood lights and the tank looked pretty sweet...

Just need a railing above the tank to mount the lights onto, but the lighting effect does look good when it hits the water...

How high above the tank is what I'm having trouble figuring out. The tank is 18 inch tall and will have 2 inches of substrate (flourish).
I'm looking to grow high light plants like dwarf hair grass

Light is the least important factor, behind solid ferts and carbon supplementation; if anything it's better to be lacking in light...means you can extend the photoperiod for viewing...

Best option is to get a PAR meter if possible, then measure accordingly the substrate levels at different light heights

Anytime there are plants in the tank you should be dosing ferts... As for the lights I've seen people set them onto plastic egg crate directly on top of the tank, and I've seen them raised from 2" - 12" above the top of the tank.

I would suggest suspending the lights 4" above the top of the tank to begin with, and then you can see if you notice any changes to the plants... If they looks like the light is sort of burning the tips of the plants, you can raise the lights higher... If it looks like the plants are starting to take a dive you can always lower the lights...

Ok I will start at 4" and make the light fixtures adjustable.
If I'm dosing and using co2 what would you suggest to dose with and scheduling?

i have some basic planted set up with LED floods, 10W. my SH and my community and both are doing well. mainly have java, anubis and swords in there.
