Wanting to go LED for my 120g (48x24x24) but I'm really confused and have no experience with LED fixtures. What I'm really wanting to get is something that looks much like my 10k T5 bulbs on my 125g.

What's a good recommendation? Price range will be +/- $200 out the door.

Looking at a FW lightly or non planted tank just to be clear as I realize that I didn't define that in my prior post and I don't see how I can edit my posts to include something like that rather than just making another post.

I always forget, is 10k the blue style?
I got beamswork led fixtures. Aquatraders sells them, you can call them and get a better price too.
There are a couple of types. the 1 watt version is less blue, more of a bright white, the 3 watt version has more blue to it. I have both and prefer the look of the 3 watt fixture.

Keep in mind, 1 watt is really 50 1-watt bulbs so its really 50 watts.

The led's are brighter than flouresant and give that shimmer effect on the bottom of the aquarium. It's really a no-brainer.

I have had the Beamworks reefbright lights now for over a year plus, very good value and have been happy with them. I did lose a transformer on one that needs replaced but its 38 bucks, dang near buy another light, the other is still working fine.

I saw the new Ageon at petsmart today and the price was not bad for a 48" plus it has a replacable light tube. Curious if anyone else has any input on it??

I was mostly looking at pictures of marineland brand since they are available pretty much everywhere and reviews are that they are not quite as bright for an LED fixture. And that they have a more yellow hue to them much like a T8/12 does from the pictures I've seen. But I don't want the higher heat and power consumption of a T5/8/12. The tank is going in my office with my PC/gaming rigs which would only be minimally affected by humidity but I'm in FL so I'm screwed there anyways lol. Even if the tank broke my equipment wouldn't be affected.

I like the beamswork products that I've seen but I don't want to go so high in lumens and output of light that the algae is a twice a week deal lol. Maybe I need to look around more such as aquatraders which I have not checked or heard of.

Thanks much and if there's anyone else with some recommendations I'd still love to hear and listen!

The thing that I see is the output of a 48" beamswork is absurd for even a FW heavily planted tank.

Yes the wattage is correct for a FW tank, .5w LED's or less. But there's still 280 of them at 4800 lumen output. 224 10k and 56 actinic's.

I mean sure, I could just set a timer up for 1 hour a day to keep growth down, but I want to enjoy my tank too. That's why I only run 2 bulbs on my T5HO on my 125 at 80w for 6 hours and I still have a lot of algae. I could only imagine having the power of that LED on a 120 what the algae would be.

Are your fish red/orange or are they blue/green? If they are orange the LEDs will wash them out. If they are blue the LEDs will make them pop.

There are no fish in my 120g yet. It's in the process of being built so I can take my time doing exactly what I want to achieve so that I don't have a tank that I'm even slightly unhappy with and want to redo as soon as I get it up.

Thanks for the info 4wheelvfr.
