LED lighting

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
all depends on your needs most expensive leds are for marine or planted tanks and will work against you in a fish only tank with high amounts of algea and stressed fish from over powered lights. beamswork are just like knockoff marineland fixtures and id definately look into them especially since they came out with a newer version using .2w leds instead of the old .06w units

For my personal tank I am going to use is 72" long and 30" tall... I am going to make it a tropical tank. I like active fish.. So I am thinking tinfoil barbs, catfish (not sure as to type yet). and maybe another school of fish like bala sharks... I may put in a a ffew hardier live plants as time goes on...

thanks for the reply

thats awefully tall keep in mind one big flaw of leds is beam angle. may find either the front or back of an 18" wide tank will be dim. with that depth id go up to 1w led version. the fish you mentioned arent usually bothered by light, more sA cichlids and stuff generally do better under dim light. only isue ive had with the beamswork was i thought the 1w model used too many blue "moonlights" and gave it too much blue look. i used electrical tape to cover the blues

I don't have much experience with any lighting, however I do use two 36" aqueon Led fixtures. Each one has a spot for 3 bulbs but comes with only one. They make a white bulb, and a red (alternates red and white LEDs). It also has a night time setting where 2 individual blue bulbs turn on. It is the best light I have ever owned and blows my old flourescant out of the water. Kinda pricey but worth it.
