What tips are you looking for? Where to by parts or a step by step tutorial? I've built a few LED lighting rigs for myself and others, so what is it that you want to know?
ReefCentral has alot of DIY led Light builds, They are probably alot more high powered than anything needed in freshwater but I'm sure it would give you all the info you need and maybe even a few good places to buy the supplies.

Dont want to hijack but, I do have a question. I hear all the drivers, crees, etc, would a simple LED circuit with appropriate mixture of white and blue ultrabright LED work for plant growth?
If were talking fresh water plants I do believe the Blues are unnecessary someone correct me if I'm wrong, But I'm pretty sure the actinic blues are only needed for Reef tanks and such.
You are correct. The actinic have no real benefit other than looks to a planted tank. They will not help the plants to grow or outcompete algae growth.
LED Aquarium Lights have come a long way now they are even available for aquarium lighting. LED lights along with SHO lights, T2, & T5 are the future of aquarium lighting, especially for planted freshwater or marine reef aquariums.
thanks for all your input. my Tank is 72" long so i am thinking of using stirps of LED lights instead of spot lights because i thort if u use spotlights might not give me and even spread of light
