Hi,

I will soon have my 600 gallon 96"x48"x30"(tall) and it will be a simple set up with some driftwood, few fake plants and light colored sand/gravel. Will the single bright (freshwater) version from Beamswork suffice? I'd rather not have to go with 4 double bright units as it would hurt my pocketbook.

What do you think?

As long as you're not trying to keep any live plants, I don't see why the single bright wouldn't do the job for you.

Singlebright should do the job. I ordered 2x fixtures for my 360. You might need 4x for yours

The singlebrights put out significantly less light, so it really depends on how much light you would like. I think I remember reading about 600 lumens vs 2200, but those number could be a little off.

In a tank that large what about standard office T8 lighting? should be alot cheaper and brighter

Comes down to personal preference. I have a single bright 48" on a 75gal bowfront and it's not bright enough for my taste. I have a double bright on the way and feel as though it will fit my liking better. With the single bright it has a gloomy look which I think some people actually prefer but personally I like a bright light on my tank especially since it's a bowfront near a sliding glass door which casts a large amount of glare. The brighter it is inside the less noticeable the glare is. With the previous fluorescent bulb the glare was almost unnoticeable. I'm kind of hoping the double bright isn't too bright but since I got the 36"-48" housing instead of the 48"-60" housing I'm hoping it will be just right. Just need to modify it to have two plugins so I can utilize my timer for the white LEDs and still have use of the moonlights at night.
