LEDs as main source of light

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Check the DIY section out. There are DIY LED setups out there that can be used for aquariums. Downside, you pay a lot more up front, even if you build it yourself. it helps to have some basic electrical knowledge and experience to do so. Upside, you save a ton of money over the life of the led's compared to any other light fixture. Good luck.

They make LED replacement bulbs to replace the florescent T-8 & t-12 bulbs in your existing. They do NOT use the worthless antiquated ballist(s) though. Each LED replacement require one digital driver. That is as simple as removing the power and ground wires running to the ballists, capping the "unused ballist wares, and connecting the two digital driver waires two the two wires that you removed from the ballists.

I saw some here that can be used with or without the balast. Using the balast just adds to power consumption therefore decreasing some of the attraction to LED's in the first place.

Rewiring is pretty simple though.
