looks brighter and better

They're so washed out. Get some black substrate or black bottom

I just feel like I've seen so many pics with black background and black sand and the fish look super dark. The sand wasnt this bad with the old fluorescent bulb. This is PFS from a local place. Te fish are moving to the bigger tank in a couple weeks or so gonna just explore substrate options for that rather than the little growout. Got any good suggestions then? I have geos so bare bottom is probably a bad idea

I have a brownish tan and the fish love it. IMO your fish will look washed out on white, but better than be grey and drab against black.

I think maybe I just got shafted with the PFS I bought tbh. It seems very white compared to some Ive seen so Ill probably just look for a darker pfs for the new tank. Although kinda sucks as I wanted to transfer all the sand over to help keep bacteria.

hmm well I guess maybe Ill just paint the bottom (outside) of my tank black and keep it barebottom. THEN if I decide my fish have darkened too much add sand at that point.
