I want to replace the MH lamp in my hood with a power efficient, low cost, high output light system. I want to decide between using Christmas LEDS or Cold Cathodes. Can anyone list pros and cons of each? And your opinion of each
Well I went ahead and got the Cold Cathodes 3x(2)12" blue and 3x(2)12" red cathodes. Which is 6ft of cathodes for $50 shipped. Each pair draws 5 mAv and outputs 28,000-30,000 cd/m. Plus they each have a life of 30,000 hours
Don't know I guess I'll find out. I know that plants use the red and blue spectrum hence the color of the cathodes I ordered. And Cathodes are pretty much small neon/fluorescent lighting anyways

well i hope your plants are ok, i think they will work if there the correct spectrum. like a full red and blue spectrum. but i dont know if its just part of it
Worst case scenario you could put a dimmer unit on it and a timer and give yourself sunset, moonlight, and sunrise before turning on the regular lights..
After searching on google I have alot more confidence in this DIY as people have had much success growing some err rather illegal plants.... Hopefully same results in an aquarium?
