Leeches and other live 'bait'

I am having heaps of success in feeding my Bowfin earth worms and night crawlers, as he hates silversides, tilapia/market shrimp and any form of pellet...So it' alive only for now. I hate feeding feeder goldies cause one-they bring in diseases and 2 they stay around too long-as he only feeds at night and three, I have a daughter that disapproves of feeder anything!

I came across this bait site and they sell everything live... Can I realistically assume anything sold locally and online as bait should be considered as prey aka: my grocery list, for this growing youngster?

Thanks!

btw Still need some good pictures to show him off...Maybe learn how to post videos on youtube with this predator!

ive caught bowfin on leeches fishing for bullheads, should be a safe food item for the little guy depending how big the leeches are, you dont want the leach to suck the little guy down

AI feed leeches to my gills and stuff all the time. You will need to acclimate him to eating during the daytime though. There is really not much of a problem feeding live minnows though, just catch them yourself. I do it all the time for my gar, and my big gill gets some too. Ghost shrimp could be another alternative.

^ one of my staples. That's pretty much all my baby alligator gar has eaten, although I've gotten him to take a few ghost shrimp. They are also super easy to catch, just look for a school next to the shoreline and scoop em up. They like to hang just under the surface, just swoop fast because they can be quick little buggers.
