I spent all of yesterday with a legend in the reptile trade and got to see and handle some of the rarest and most expensive reptiles around. Needless to say, This made my year.
This was a very large pond that was stocked with tons of rare snake necks, diamondback terrapins, and fly river turtles. We got to see the terrapins laying eggs while we were there too.
This is my favorite part of the iguana collection- we also got to see albino iguanas and blue iguanas and pure white iguanas. We also got a sneak peak at what will be the newest color morph which is a true red (erythristic and not just the naturally occurring orange iggs that everyone calls red) have been breed with the albinos to get a double het clutch of babies and these should in theory produce hot pink babies. Keep an eye out in the next year or two.
My personal favorite- Protobothrops mangshanensis. If I had several thousand dollors laying around this would be coming home with me.
Look at the size of this beast! It is only half grown too.
Dominican red mountain boa- it's like a rainbow boa on steroids
A very pretty haitian boa
add another one to the list of what I wanted to bring home with me. A 6 foot albino eastern diamondback
Two normal monocled cobras had a clutch of unremarkable babies except for this one which has been nicknamed batman for the bat symbol- like marking on his hood. Beautiful.
Naja legionis- think of an indigo snake and then give it a hood and venom and you end up with a black pak. Same feeding response as my drymarchon too.
There was much more to see including his new venom lab and some more buildings under construction for him to expand but the highlight was just getting to talk to him and learn. Tom really knows his animals and I have never seen a collection so large that is so well cared for. His animals are top notch.
