Lfs has some leichardti @4-5inch for $120, or I can get a 50cm jardini for $350. They'll be going in a big tank with rays and possibly barramundi. Unsure on which to get, I've heard good things about both but not leaning towards either yet.

Cheers

That jar could be or soon become psychotically aggressive at that size, they have a reputation for doing so.I'm not really sure about the temperament of adult leis but you would have quite a bit of time to grow them out if you went that route.

Great price on the leis especially at that size by the way.

Yeah ok, I guess it comes down to the price, growing the lei out is no real problem, jars are a lot rarer than leis at the moment, jars also seem to have nicer colours but are more aggressive, whereas leis aren't as vicious. That's just what I've heard from a few sources though... is the extra $230 worth it for the jar?

I agree with krich on all points. As far as leis temperament they're known for being easier to comm and being less aggressive but that depends on the specimen as there have been reported cases of them behaving like a psychotic jar would.

As far as other differences, leis tend to get a little longer while staying more slender, where as jars will stay shorter but be taller bodied and probably have more girth.

That being said, I'd always choose a jar over lei. I like jars looks better in every way from color to body build. The attitude would only add to it for me. And the fish I'd keep it with, it would have trouble bullying.

However rays are expensive, the safer option is lei. It's personal preference and how much risk your willing to take.
