Hello all,

Has anyone kept Lei's in a subtropical environment? If I don't get any CONFIRMED replies, I may have to try myself. I tried this with my AUL and so far he is doing well wiht night time water temps at about 52 to 55 degrees.

Lei's are from the same region, so I think it might work out.

Thanks in advance!
Chris

I wouldn't do it, if I was you. Arowana may survive with temperature of 70F night time, but at temperature as low as 60F, they could get swim bladder problem. I also notice that Lei is not as strong as other arowana, even at adult size.

Thank you for the input. After doing some research online, I found that Lei's can tolerate temperatures between 7-40 deg C (44-104 deg F). However, prolonged exposure to 10 deg C (50 deg F) (three to four weeks) can result in death. *reference: Freshwater fishes of north-eastern Australia by Brad Pusey, Mark J. Kennard, Angela H. Arthington.

My indoor tub remains consistently at about 55-60 in the winter time. I would imagine an outdoor pond would be about 55-65 deg F considering the sun would warm it up. I have no concerns in the summer time.

So I will try this after my pond is complete. Hope to have success and hopefully some So Cal monster pondkeepers can breed these things!

...I need more Lei's!

Thank you
Chris

Have had 4 weeks at 12C with a 2day low of 10C in the bigger dams/ponds did not lose any.
