i just purchased a new leichartdi arowana that is about 2-3 inches

it looks liek the right side has gill curl. or i assume i have never seen gill curl. it just looks like the outside part of the gill is a coming out a little.
i was wondering is it even possible for a arowana this small to get gill curl?
and what causes it? would it be sand?
sorry i cant get pictures the fish is too fidgety in the net it almost jumped out while i was tryin to take pictures so i dont wanna risk it.

arowana get gill curl at about any age

LOL sand?

*cough* my bad :D

ok, gill curl is caused mainly by crappy water quality

since it sounds like a mild case of gill curl, right the water quality and it should reverse.

icic so couple water changes should reverse the gill curve back too normal?

can the size of the tank cause gill curl? ie A tank that is way too small...

According to "Jurassic Fishes", Gill curling may be caused by either a high concentration of nitrates or lack of swimming space. So, fresh water and big tank.

not sure if saratogas are the same, but .. (if you can catch it) apparently you can trim it with scissors... my mate did that with a RTC he purchased, its still doing fine, and recovered well... it hasn't had the curl for a few years now.... .. there is no scaring or anything like that...

there is a crappy little shop near by my house, (30 min drive) :P and I saw they had a saratoga in an open-top tank, it had extremely bad bad bad case of gill curl, I asked the owner what's up with your fish.. "oh it's only new, he's a little stressed"

I was like er.. looks like gill curl to me, you should fix your water..

I told my boss (pet shop boss) about this saratoga in an open top tank, and he said "wow, they still have that there aye. the one with the gill curl" apparently it's been there for months..
