I have 4F, 2M electric blues approaching breeding size and see 4F, 1M Aulonocara Lemon Jakes available, similar size maturity. Thinking about getting them.

So colours of males are contrasting, but would
groups be compatible?

Is there a very
likely chance of hybrids in a 6 foot long tank?

IMO, probably no problems keeping an Aulonocara & Hap species together in a spacious tank.
There is always a chance of hybridization when dealing with African Cichlids, but considering that a harem exists for both species, the chances of hybridization are likely reduced.

I do not see an issue either, should be fine. The one to watch will be the sub dominant male S. fryeri.

Thanks for the feedback.

Fryeri DOES have a rep for crossbreeding with aulonocara of any color. I have no personal experience with this as I don't keep fryeri or jacobfreibergi.

This is true, it has happened in the past. I should have had more coffee before commenting. Sheesh. My apologies, Dwayne.

IMO there is seldom a guarantee when mixing Malawi anything, which is also why I generally kept breeding tanks to a single species. If you plan on passing on the fry to anyone, you might want to strongly consider DJ's post.

If I get group two, maybe I will keep each group in a 90 gallon then.

That is what I did, each group in its own 90 gallon.
