Where the cheeseheads are..
Hey all,
I hate being paranoid, but she has been doing this for a week.

She only goes flat on meals, and as soon as she stops feeding she goes to
that corner again. She doesnt roam around the tank between meals,
just stayed there. Won't budge even if the light is on or off.

The only tankmate is the male one.
Cant find any scratch/bite mark on both.
Appetite dropped to 50% but she still eats her share, just not much..
obviously not active at all..

Tank is barebottom, pH 6.7, room temp is 82,
0 ammonia and nitrite...

I'm thinking of putting her back with the pearls..
When she had lots of tankmates, she eats A LOT...
but she bullies EVERYONE there... leaving bite marks here and there...
Argh damn it , I cant decide which path to choose

Any suggestion guys?
Pups seem to have more problems than adult rays , aren't they?

You could always put a divider down the middle and see if that makes a difference.
Perhaps there is aggression between her and the male that you are missing.

Yeah, i'll get some glass and do that. thanks mate :)

Is the outer edge of the disk faded all around by chance?

well, now that you mention it, it does look a bit fade.. what kind of disease or symptoms are you suggesting here?
About keeping the tank dark, I've tried killing all the lights for the whole day,
and it gets pitch black for several hours, and yet ..
she still only moves on feeding time...

This was one of my signs when I had my bacteria problem which was brought on by stress. I think if you can find out the reason for the stress and solve that then plenty of waterchanges and complete dark for awhile until feeding gets back up to full and slowly start uncovering part of your tank for awhile you will be able to avoid meds. It doesn't look that serious yet so this should solve it.
As for the stress. I'll ask the usual questions to you:
Size of tank?
water parameters? (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate)
how often and how much water do you change out?
Are you using tap or r/o and what type of water conditioner?
temp of tank?
What are you using for filtration? (powerheads, filters...ect)
What are you using for airation?
How long has your tank been up and running?

i had a few pups do the same. they were just scardie cats. they grew out of this behavior in a few weeks after they got healthy.

i think they do this because they dont have anywhere to hide...

I agree that they are doing this because of no place to hide and it makes them feel more secure but I'm not totally sure what's stressing them out. They were eating good before so that's why I'm wondering if there is something else besides being new. If we don't get that solved the fading will become more serious and lead to further complications. Simply covering the tank may solve the problem but I'll lean on the side of caution since there is fading and maybe see if there is something more.
