Hey just grabbed a couple of these last night what does everyone know about them?

Leporinus btw the phone changed it to Leo

Leporinus are not loaches... I had a banded Leporinus before but sold him recently. He was beautiful 10-11 inch fish, striped black and gold with a red chin. The problem was he had a bad attitude and constantly chased around his tankmates and was definitely the boss of the tank. He would commonly rip and eat his tankmates fins and harass them to the point where I had to say enough is enough. I took him out of that tank and stuck a divider in another tank and ploped him in there. He wasn't happy at all. He became kinda shy and freaked out during water changes or when my hand went in the tank. He would freak out evertime. Flying into the glass and ornaments, splashing water all over, whacking his face, and loosing a few scales. He even jumped out once but was fine. He stopped eating in front of me and waited till I left to go up to the surface to retrieve his pellets. I felt bad for him so I decided to sell him to someone who would appreciate him and give him better living conditions than I had him in after he became too much to handle. Luckily I found a buyer with a nice 180 gallon tank that wanted him and it fit into his sceme of fishes as he already had two of them around the same size. He ate pretty much anything and was fat and very outgoing before I moved him. Maintaining health and ease of care for leporinus is very easy as IME they are tanks. Good luck with your Leporinus and I hope yours doesn't turn out as evil as mines. Fin nipping bastard. Never realy bothered my clown loaches too much though... He hated certain fishes like my prochilodous. Wonder how he's doing and if he is tormenting the other guys fish right now.;)

Oh thanks alot! I had no idea about him being a loach or not but that's what they told me at my LFS. So that's why I thought they were a loach. Yeah I had 2 of them but didn't think my catfish would eat them . Came home last night and only had 1 :(

Sorry to hear about one of your leporinus getting eaten :(. BTW now you know not to ever listen to the people at that LFS again. Pretty silly IMO that they can't tell the difference between a leporinus and a loach!. IMO its pretty obvious... as long as you know what the basics of what a loach is like. Obviously the people at your LFS don't... Makes me kinda wonder if you really have a leporinus or some kind of loach they decided to call a leporinus?

I'll post a picture soon

leporinus.jpg here is a pic of the pair I had. Still have 1 though!

Lol. Those are definitely banded leporinus that I was talking about. Your pet shop people are well... :screwy:... Pretty obvious if you know the basic characteristics of a loach. They look nice, but mean and nasty at the same time.. Good luck with them.:)
