So I noticed this morning he wasnt very active and his one fin looked a little red at the base. Im not sure if hes sick or just old since hes close to 7 years. He still ate but hes been not as active. Paramaters are 20 Nitrate, 0 Nitrite. 150 hardness, 6.8 Ph and 0 Ammonia tank is 75 temp I do 50% water changes and clean every week tank size 120G. All the other fish are perfectly normal. Any Suggestions?

I dunno Maybe its his time. Or maybe he/she wants a Mate. Sorry i have no definite solutions for why he/she has changed. :(

1. Is this pink coloration normal or abnormal? Is it obvious that this area has become more pink/red recently, or is it that you are just looking for closely at him now that you've noticed behavioral changes.
A pink color at the base of the fin where it attaches to the body is fairly common, though it looks more apparent on your fish.

2. Can you describe it a little more? Is it raised/indented, bumpy/smooth, becoming more red or staying the same color, getting larger, etc?

It looks the same size its definatly reder than the usual. Seems to be a little indented and not smooth. I have been keeping a close eye on him and this just happend yesterday.

Reddening at the base of the fins is most commonly caused by an ulcerative disease/hemorrhagic septicemia. This is generally caused by the bacteria aeromonas, pseudomonas, and vibrio.

Reddening of the vent is commonly seen as well, so try to get a look at that. Keep an eye out for any apparent ulcers/sores/lesions on the body.

You can try some antibacterial medicated fish food as long as he is eating. Feed this to the other fish as well, as these bacteria can spread to other healthy fish. If he stops eating, he needs to be quarantined and treated with something like KanaPlex.
If ulcers appear, you can treat them topically with something like Bio Bandage.

These bacteria are present at very low levels in any fish, but only become a problem when some source of stress or decreased immune system occurs. Most commonly this is caused by bad water quality, overcrowding, etc. This doesn't seem to be the case with your aquarium, so it may be a decreasing immune system in an older fish.

Thanks for the help I was kinda thinking it was that when I went through the list! I got some treatment tonight so well see what happens.

Doing alot better he is definalty back to being himself the red is almost gone. Today will be the third day of treatment hoping it will be gone by tommorow.
