I have a leopard ctenopoma in a 29 gallon with some other community fish, I want to get rid of the other fish. What would be some cool tankmates? Must be rare or oddball or pred. I know my options are limited but I wanna hear what you guys would do
ive never seen one bigger than 5 inches in captivity, they dont move a whole bunch so why on earth would u need a 50 gallon tank for one, and he rarely leaves the top half of tank
Nice fish! I have 2 in a 46 gallon with some adult rainbows. They occasionally get home-bred guppies as treats. I love watching them stalk their prey... they are very patient fish.
I'm sure one Leopard Ctenopoma will be fine in a 29 as they are not active swimmers. I don't know what fish you want to put with them, but be careful not to overstock as Leopard Ctenopoma are sensitive to water quality issues.
water quality isnt an issue, hes been in there over 6 months with cory cats and a red breast acara, nitrate is always 20 ppm or lower i stick to my wc schedule and have two bio wheel 170 as filters, plenty of others layin around if params ever get outta whack, basically looking for something that hangs out on the bottom, something odd or rare
yeah that would be cool but ive never seen the sa leaf fish for sale locally, that was really the only reason i bought the other fish, i was tryin to find an sa leaf fish but couldnt and now this guy has so much personality i kinda want to build the tank around him
Well as stated leopard ctenopoma full grown would need a 55,but for now i believe you are good as long as you dont overstock and keep up with the water changes as these fish are somewhat sensitive to water quality, so for me most cichilds work but with your smaller tank that wouldnt really work so basically anything that doesnt fit in its mouth or if its smaller than the ctenopoma make sure its fast.
I have a thread that you could check out if you want.
