This fish is confusing me, i know petsmart is not a wealth of good info lulz but the tag on it said 30 gallon mini. semi aggressive 6 in max. picked it up (hell it was 10 bucks when I have seen them online for 30) and googled it one random forum said something about 3 in max 10 gallon mini. then on a site where they sell them they have it listed as 50 gallon mini. aggressive 6 in max.

i trust the guys on here so who's had one?! i have her in my 30 gallon breeder right now (gotta update my signature). She is only about 1.5 in long as of now (and already building bubble nests! hence why i know its gender so small). I have seen them in tanks with senegals and ornate bichirs before so i figured it could stack up in my main pred tank once it grows out a bit in my 30.

Im guessing the 6 in. size is correct, and its a perch that i know can live with bichirs, but hows it sounding in my stock? red wolf fish, peacock bass (currently growing out in a friends tank) ornate bichir.

Yeah around 6 inch is what you should expect in an aquarium, I have one thats about 4-5 inch but ive seen them bigger. Mine can be quite aggressive. Falls out with my severum from time to time and when I had them it used to hate my hoplo catfish for some reason.

Oh I have mine with a large ornate with no problems. Don't know about the bass but I would think ok while they are smaller

I'm growing out one now that I got from PetSmart.I also paid ten bucks for mine.I have had them before and have never seen them as big as six inches until someone posted a picture on here and my goal is to get it to its max size.I have never seen them bother with another fish that they cannot eat but that's not to say that they won't.I wouldnt trust the bass with it down the road though.

The only thing ive noticed is that the real big ones I've seen tend to be all gnarly looking and seem to have lost a lot of the leopard markings

I have heard that the markings fade as the fish ages,as a lot of different fish tend to do.

It could just be poor diet. All the really big ones ive seen have been in lfs returned from peoples tanks, most likely cus that cute little fish they got at an inch long for their 2 foot tank is now big and ugly and eating all their neons. (Not saying everyone with a small tank fits this profile!)

It's possible.I remember when I got my very first one years ago I didn't know much about them.I fed it mealworms and that's all it would eat which is probably not the best thing for them to eat.Its much different with this little guy I have now as it already eats floating and sinking pellets along with cut up fish and shrimp.

I have found that mine appreciates cover and when he has it he's out and about more. I think they are ambush predators naturally which would explain the hiding- lying in wait for the next tasty morsel
