I'm wondering what action I can take to help slow his breathing. Ive been treating the tank with Metronidazole and prazquantel since I unfortunately lost another ray in the same system. He still is refusing food and breathing heavily. I have done water changes. I have UV running on the system. Let me know if you can help. Thanks
Trevor

How about adding a powerhead to increase 02 levels?

OH NO!!! add some salt, and prazi, was the other ray wild? Hopefully he pulls through... i know he is a good looking guy ;)

Hey, sorry to hear this! What are the tank parameters? The first thing people will recommend is salt @ 3#'s per 100 gallons (add over 2 days at 1/2 dose first day, second 1/2 second day), increased water changes, heat up to 82F. Offer foods sparingly, cut the lights to cut down on unnecessary stress.

I have several o2 power heads running. I have the tank with thermostat right at 82. Ive got the prazi in the water. How much salt should I put in the 300 gallon tank. The other ray that died was a long term captive. I think what may have happened was when I was out of town I think the rays got fed some food by my friend that was either bad or with parasites.

i would say raise the temp even higher... 86, then aquarium salt to the sump (so it doesnt burn his disk) i would do about 2 lbs now, then 2 lbs tonite and then repeat tommorow, its best to slowly raise it

Sorry to hear...That's the classic story. My friend was taking care of my fish for the week and not they're all dead/dying. Good luck

turn off the UV and remove the meds via water changes.... add salt at 1 pound per 100 gallons

Same as Nic. When I was treating with furan-2 (not recommended) my rays breathing was very laboured and stopped eating. Once meds are removed there shouldn't be any issues.

most meds react with UV.... why are you doing metro and prazi at the same time? get the meds out of the water...
