hi guys i am looking to buy a trio of leopoldi rays (1 male 2 females) i have a 6x2x2 tank that i am using as a sump for a 7x3x2 3wide will the size be adequite for the rays. i have a ehiem pro 3e wich is a brilliant filter its the largest of the series also. so using my 6x2x2 sump (wich has a massive bio section) will this setup be okay. also what tankmates are ok with rays. i own a small group of clown loaches can these live with the rays or not, i have heard a lot of people say dont keep them with rays as they will eat the protective layer around the ray and also people saying that they are great companions and even ride the ray? i was hoping to keep an asain green arowana also is this a good idea. i was hoping to breed the rays eventually. oh and can the pups live with the parents?
thanks guys:grinno:

tank will be too small for life but will be ok for now idk about the clown loaches ive only ever heard of plecos eating slime coat but it makes sense with the CLs too, and no if it does eat the slime coat its very bad and can kill the ray, and if you live in new haven owning an asian arowana would be illegal as they are not allowed in the states...

i think ull be fine for a long time!
good filtration.. i would add a AC110 because rays can be messy!
get rid of the loaches.. the arowana will work well with rays!

thanks man so ill sell the loaches to contribute to getting the arowana does anyone have any information on the pups being able to live with the adults? my sump goes like this 1/2 a foot intake 3 foot bio 1 foot mech 1 foot uv section with 2 uv lights 1 runs mornins the other afternoon and 1/2 outake i am going to have 3 holes to the back right of the aquarium and the return on the left side also i am adding powerheads for water movements and i have a structured background for the tank when it arrives.

im sure u can keep the pups with the parents... if there is any aggression though u gotta separate them!
oh and btw screen the holes in the tank ( that goes to the sump) so nothing gets sucked in

yes i will do that do you know if using RO water is okay with rays it wont kill them will it, i mean i use RO water with my freshwater species that are more sensative figured it would work for rays?

i straight from tap always have dont need ro
6x4x2 is better then the 7x3x2 width better then lengh
Pups if u do bread your rays the male and female have been known to kill the new borns i would separate soon as and grow them on for a while before putting them back in tank .
Where u getting the leos from and how much if u dont mind me asking
And the eheim pro 3e is not the biggest they is the pro 3 the bigger to the pro 3e

ull here mixed answers here but i think a 7x3x2 is fine.

tahts great your usuing a 6ft tank as a sump. but make sure u use it effectively.
if u use spinning arms, most of that thank wont get used.
if you set up the sump in a matrix style. it will be very effective.
Choose your bio media carefully

and a 6ft sump and and an ehiem pro 3e will be plenty!
