Yesterday I got a pair of leopoldi stingrays. One of them is healthy and happy, the other one has what I have learned is called "Spot Shifting", the spots have become blured. I have read some articles saying this condition is likely to kill, and some saying that the ray will probably be fine. This is a wild caught ray from a reputable dealer who has said its just stress and the ray will be fine. I wanted to find out other peoples experience with this condition and weather the ray survived or not, as well as any treatment beyond adding aquarium salt.

I have the picture from the dealer before he shipped attached, it had the spot shifting then so its not from shipping, i never heard of this condition beore so I thought it was just a motion blur or lense flare on the picture. I havent been able to get any good pics since it arrived here as its stayed burried pretty much constantly.

With pristine water conditions, the spots should clear up in due time. As long is he is healthy, eating, and the like, you don't really have much to worry about.

YIKES!!! never seen that be4 on a ray..... if thats the picture he sent you i would have backed out from buyin the first place.. salt doesnt seem like the solution for that if anything prazipro your tank and make sure ur water is super crisp with additional airation in the water... good luck its a beauty

def move to stingray section

Yeah I would have backed out had I realized that was actually how it looked, thought the shifting of the spots was just a bad picture as I had scene previous pictures where it looked normal.

I have alot of airation already in the tank, and I am setting up to do 50% daily water changes with RO, and I have excelent filtration already in place.

So far the ray has shown no interest at all in food, the other one I got has been eating great but this one doesnt even unbury itself when I put blackworms in, but its been only 24 hours so will just have to give it more time.

bro i also just got my leo and it has minor spot shifting and isnt eating. Im told give them time since they are WC and just shipped and its normal stress.

Seems to be doing a little bit better today, still refusing to eat, but atleast it is not burying itself anymore and is swiming around the tank some. I have tried live blackworms, earthworms, red wigglers, and ghost shrimp, hasnt shown a bit of interest in any of them. How is yours doing superleggera123? Here is an updated picture.
