i am going to get a lepard gecko very soon like in the next couple days and i am trying to decide whether to go with carpet or sand i just dont understant how you clean the carpet, do you just scrape there droppings off or can you wash it? i would rather go with sand but only if it is better for the lizard:)

I am using carpets for my Leopard Gecko. Since they are born potty-trained, I just place a tissue paper at his potty spot and replace it. I haven't seen him making any other mess except for walking all over the water and calcium dishes. I can use a hand vacuum for this and dust matter.

Sand on the other hand, if your Leo is a baby / juvi especially can cause impaction. The simplest and easily available substrate I see people use are newspapers. But I don't see it as a beautiful substrate, besides although I haven't heard them causing any problems there are the inks / chemicals that sticks to our fingers and definitely on the Leo.

my setup is a 20 long with the tipical hiding places with rocks etc... of course i have a heat lamp, i have a quite a bit of basic supplies left over from when i had an iguana. if there is any other supplies i need please let me know

I'm sure you know about providing the Gecko with Calcium D3 and Multivitamin. Provide a dish with calcium powder, another of water. A container for humidity...a cloth or kitchen rolls whatever you see fit sprayed with water for the Gecko to get in ( especially during shedding ).

And let the Light be at one corner so there's a bright ( warm ) and dark ( cool ) area for the Gecko to choose as it likes. ( to maintain temperature )

If you want to use carpet you can always take it out & wash it, then let it dry...keep 2 pieces so you can swap out the dirty one and put a clean one in while the other dries. Most of the lizards I've kept had nails so I always steered clear of carpet for fear of snagged nails and missing or injured toe-tips, but for a gecko that's not an issue.

Anyone use that calci-sand? I would think it would cover the calcium need and also not cause impaction but I haven't used it personally...

i would rather use sand if possible but then again i dont know about the impation problem... my previous lizards have always been on bark so i have never had to deal with impaction

Calcium Sand is bull****, I read that it makes no difference, that it still causes impaction. Impaction occurs mostly to babies / juvies..
