I got these two- 2 inch oculatus yesterday, and it is the first time i keep lepisosteus.
Werry fun to watch them struggle agains the small bloodworms... specially couse we all know what`s going to become of this fish in the future :)

One question;
Is it only mine- ore do lepisosteus have bad swiming skills as juveniles? They do good in stillwater, but are all over the place if they get cought by the smallest current.. Some times look to me like they suffer brain damage.

they have trouble in current when they r small.

very nice!!! they look tiny! do keep us updated on growth. btw im suspecting you have florida gar, lepisosteus plathyrinchus, instead of oculatus as you suggest.

Ok. So it culd be a flodida gar. They where named Lepisosteus oculatus in the fish lists, but this culd of course be wrong. As i understand after some reading here on MFK they look very similar.

I will come with updates as they grow :)

very cool, looking forward to seeing the progress.

how about some feeding pics :)

They got really fat today. I didn`t even know they had the capasity to hold that much food..:grinno:

Bad photo, but look at that stomach!

cool update! really shows yoy gars desire to stuff as much food as possible into their stomachs...

I was amazed by the size of the feederfish, my Gar could swallow, when he was smaller.
First time feedings I thought he was gonna choke on the fish.
Then you see him open his throat and gone was the fish.
And I was like OMG! He CAN eat a fish that big!lol
