Leporinus fasciatus?

I am interested in getting a small shoal of banded leporinus...but I have some questions:
Will they shoal? (How many do I need?)
Will they be ok in a planted tank?
What growth can I expect?
How bad is the fin nipping?
Anything else worth noting please comment!

they will shred the plants real quick, you would need a pretty large tank for a shoal as they can be aggresive with conspecifics.

They will shred the plants quickly and often aren't that friendly to tankmates or each other. Very aggressive fin nippers and eye biters. I have one about 12" in with my monster jar. The leporinus holds his own quite well.

The more I hear the less I want them. This is why I post on this site, to avoid mistakes. Thanks for the info.
