Hello, Shadowbass shares some interesting information about this species and its names. The name L. desmotes is new for me, I have seen the names L. fasciatus and affinis used depending on how many black bars the fish had, One had 9 bars the other 10 I think. I also have seen the names L. fasciatus and L. fasciatus fasciatus used as names for 2 seperate fish. Is L. affinis an accepted name still?

Check out the list for the Leporinus genus.

It's fairly large and many of them look the same other than slight variation in banding or coloration.

Many aren't even available in the aquarium trade other than by accident, and when people purchase the wrong fish they usually don't realize they have a distinct species or attempt to correctly identify it.

I see from the list that shadobass provided that it can be confusing trying to buy a L. fasciatus, much confusion still exists on this fish, its subspecies and forms.
