My banded leporinus(that I got for free at 3-4 inches because it was getting to big for their 10 gallon)is now about 6-7 inches and starting to cause problems. It started with the tail slapping and now has graduated to nipping. So far he has gone after the severums, the silver dollars and the dempsey. At least he's an equal oppurtunity nipper. Any ideas as to whether he will grow out of this or is it time to go. My last one was twice as big and never caused problems. Here's a pic of the repeat offender.

Leporinus (most species) are just wierd, some are peaceful, some fight with others of the same species, and others are just trouble makers. I have never been able to figure out why they are that way. I would either trade itr out or put it in with larger fish as once they start nipping they don't seem to stop.

I was afraid of that, thanks guppy

I have a 7" Leporinus in a 90g and he has killed about 6 fish in his life time. He will bite anything in the tank and attacks the thermometer every once in a while. I can't wait to get rid of him.

It will grow out of it....yeah right...and grow out of your tank too

My Lep hasn't started to hit anyone so far, but could grow into that I guess. He is approx. 4 inches and getting fat. I haven't seen him go after anyone - he seems more like a curious aggrivator to all the other fish.

Mine didn't either til he it the 6 inch mark.
