old disease, showing up more and more in pet dogs, potentially fatal and contageous to human beings
Right now it's endemic in the baltimore rat population
the way unvaccinated dogs contract it is to drink water contaminated by rat urine
shows up with nonspecific vomtting diarrhea, progresses to liver and kidney failure
Really bad news? contageous to humans
basically cleaning up after an infected pet with open cuts in hands can lead to infection
used to be considered occupational hazard, now a risk to families with young kids etc
few reported human cases .
toe, the professional version please? not being snotty i liked your write up!!

basic vector control prevents most of this, short version, do not let rats pee on food products.

In the city the rat problem is HORRIBLE, owners don't always vaccinate and for a while lepto was not part of core vaccines,
the rat baits pose another set of problems
