Hello, I have a 7 inch male Red Devil and a 10 inch Female Red Devil, who just recently have been beating the living crap out of each other, They just constantly circle each other and eventually pull each other around by the mouths. Should I seperate them? They have never bred I dont know if this is a sign for them breeding also, how far have you seen fighting go to with a pair before? So far just a little bit of fin damage and raw lips
Thank you

If no one is getting torn up too bad I would give it a few more days. It's normal for the female to test her mates strengh to see if he is worthy.

That sounds a little violent for a pair that's getting ready to breed. It sounds like they're having some issues accepting each other.

How big is your tank? Most people try to breed RD in a 6' long tank to curb aggression. Even after a successful spawn, the male or female might kill its mate if you don't have a divider ready to separate them. I repeat, it is not uncommon at all for a RD to kill its mate. Be prepared to separate them at a moment's notice!

I have them in a 120 long with a lima shovelnose, today hasnt been to bad, i used to keep them with a pair of jags in the tank. My Rd's have only ever been aggressive towards each other, Ive even had live goldfish live in the tank before because my jags hadnt eaten them. They are only aggressive towards one another, im positive they are male and female 100%
