lesser electric stingray?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'd pick that up in a heartbeat. They get to 18" wide, max. Probably one of the few smaller species of SW rays that are able to be kept in anything besides a monstrous tank.

awesome, thanks fellas... I talked the guy down from $200 to $100 because he broke his tank during the move and has him in a rubbermaid... So I am basically doing him a favor and saving him... I thought he looked rare and cool looking too... I had a motoro before but never a SW... Will he be okay with my cat shark? will he actually sting/shock my shark or other fish? Thank you.. I will take photos tomorrow.

awesome man! To be honest idk how much electricity they can produce? But as far as i know sharks are sensitive for electrical fields. You may have to look if the ray disturbs your shark.

Depending on species, age, and health, these electric rays can put out between 8-220volts. While the voltage may not seem to be something to worry about, consider the amperage. They can produce attack and defense currents up to 30amps. Less than 1 amp passing through your heart for 3 seconds can fatally disrupt heart function.

One good thing is that once they've put out a shock it takes time for them to recharge. This makes handling them (fishing or aquarium) easier than other electric species.
