Hey all, so after that wonderful multi-day power outage in Toronto I'm just spinning back up and almost back to normal. One of those things is including my impending upgrade for my lovely-wonderful-adorable-baby siren Pittpitt, and while I'm doing that I'd like to explore a question that has popped into my head every once in a while.

Male or female?

I've always referred to him as a male until he was 'old enough to tell'. I purchased him (and his biting brother who had to be relocated... normal behaviour or not) on Aug 29/11, he was already 9 inches then. So two and a half years later he's a smidge over 16" and I'm figuring he's old enough to be an 'adult'. So with a tail at 5 3/4" and a smooth forehead... should I start calling him a her from now on? :) Knowledgeable opinions appreciated!

Edit: Last picture showing three fingers is due to a rope fish-related accident early on in my fish-keeping years. Also he's currently sleeping like a log.

I'd say male too, I'm no expert on these though only had one once for a year or so. Wonderful wet pet for sure, ended up trading it for actual fish stuff because I didn't want polypterus messing with it

Alrighty, I'm starting to see the 'forehead bulge' too, even if it isn't as pronounced as the ones I see on the caudata page. I'm happy I can keep calling him what I have been. :)

hi where did you purchase / adopt your siren from? I've really been looking to buy a pair (breeding or non breeding - dosent matter they will be different aquariums anyway) and i used to have one sadly due to breaking my back i was unable to care for it properly and had to adopt it out.
