Hi i'm Gio from Jakarta,Indonesia 17yo this month, this is my first thread in MFK yeay. I want to share my experience i got from my first arowana, which had died on March 8th 2014. The reason of its death was 'jump', yes, he jumped from 80cmx40cmx40cm tank onto the floor when i was sleeping at night.I had been keeping him(maybe a male) for only about 2 weeks. It was a big mistake for not placing a lid above the tank. I heard that arowana would jump if they feel uncomfortable, so i didn't place the lid above beacuse i place him in a nice condition of water + great filtration(soft mat,Jap mat,Bioball,Ceramic ring, zeolite,Carbon). The another reason i just realised is at the last time feeding the aro, i was thinking about taking a new RTG and sell that one, and i still remember i just fed him 3 crickets for that night(usually 5 crickets). So the lesson i learned from this accident is to PLACE A LID ABOVE the arowana tank and understand that animal(fish) have 'feeling' too lol. This is the stats of the arowana: Banjar Red, 8" long(bought at 7"),cost around 20$ converted from rupiah(indonesian). Always research your fish! On every search I found the number one thing is always Aros jump! Sorry about your fish.

You learned it.

Coimtless others have learned it and countless others will also learn it, unfortunately.

It is one of the risks most highlighted in the hobby.

Sorry for your loss.

not just arrows either, most active fish are just being startled away from a lethal jump...:(

thanks for all, now i'm keeping 2 arowanas, silver and RTG, the silver one is comm-tanked with catfishes+some cichlids, and the RTG is being alone(for the "body building"), hope others don't repeat my accident :D
