port aransas texas
hear are some things ive learned in three years of aquariums, snorkeling, spearfishing.

1.i was spear fishing off the port aransas jetties, and had a few good fish.
i was just wrapping up when i saw a curious triggerfish looking for a morsel of food from my stringer. i loaded my pole spear and shot at it. my spear glanced of its side leaving a nasty gash. it swam away. i never leave a wounded animal in pain so i followed it. i tracked it for about twenty feet
and cornered it in a crevice. i shot and missed again. ( bad day) the spear got lodged into the rock and the fish charged me!!! it really attacked me!!!
it bit me once in the stomach and shot by my head. i still have a scar on my tummy:(. LESSON, animals are unpredictable!!!

2. lol, guy walks in the fish store withs a domino damsel and says with a tear in his eye. ''my girlfriend suprised me with this little guy, she put it in my tank when i was out of town ,when i got back he had killed three of my cleaner shrimp, a clownfish and three tridac clams!!! the owner said "oh i remember her! but thats strange she sounded like she knew that those were extremely aggresive, she also said you had fish that would be able to cope!!! i thought she was an aquarist her self!!" the man said "she is!! we had been arguing for days before that. thats why i left town!!" moral: never date a girl that knows about aquariums and has your keys!! true story!

3. i was doing a water change and had all my equipment unplugged from my power strip. as i was siphoning the end of the tube came out of the bucket. about a gallon of water fell and landed on my foot... which was on the power strip!!! needless to say i was zapped out of my mind. moral dont put your foot on a power strip while siphoning water!!!

4. my friend has an amazing 250gallon reef setup with a jaw dropping emereor angel. i was overlooking his amazing set up when i saw an unsighltly diatom patch on his glass. i grabbed his MAG -FLOAT and moved it towards the algea. but it wasnt a mag float... it was a magnet
used to hold on his 12000 gph powerhead!!! it fell like a rock and began to
stir up every thingon the bottom. it was chaos!! it took five minutes to get it back were it belongs!!! im a freekin idiot. MORAL let the owner do
the maintenence dont do it your self!!!! youll screw something up. i did:wall:

5. i was amazed at the new magenta dottyback i got for my birthday.
i could watch it for hours.

i also caught like twenty peppermint shrimp and put them in. well when one died it was picked apart by my damsel and dottyback. from then on it loved shrimp flesh. it never ate them alive but would freak out when i fed fresh shrimp straight from the gulf. i needed to feed my peppermint shrimp but they were nocturnal and timid. getting bullied by my fish and getting no food. so id turn the light out wait for my fish to go to sleep ( only i know when they are snoozin)
and drop the food in. i did this and went to sleep. when i awoke my power head was clogged with the bodies of shrimp where they came to the surface to get the food and were sucked into the intake of my powerhead and killed. the smell was too much for my dottybackand as it went to investigate it was sucked up too  MORAL, prefilters on powerheads extend the life of more than the pump!!

6. i have a twenty gallon paludarium with an open top stocked with ten sheepshead minnows i caught. i put a sheet of 1/8 inch acrylic over the top and put a light over it. twenty minutes later i was greeted by an unusual smell coming from my room. i couldnt put my finger on it. but then i recognized it... BURNT PLASTIC!!! the acrylic had a giant bubbly dent in it that remaines to this day. i changed the light needless to say! MORAL incandesant lighting WONT WORK!!!

7. i was fishing and caught a stargazer. i had heard myths that they could shock you like an electric eel but figured it was just hooey. i reached to
un hook it and let me tell you its not a myth. i was zapped like a wet fly in a bugzapper!!! MORAL dont mess with stargazers!!

all these things are helpful, or at least funny so i hope you enjoy!!! post your simalar stories. or comment on mine:ROFL:
