Well, I thought it would be interesting to here about anyone's crazy experiences shipping or receiving fish. The reason for this is because I have one of my own that I experienced last week.

Last week Thursday I shipped out a Lenticulata Pike Cichlid via Canada Post. I've sent fish numerous times and never had an issue. I use the Express Post option which means you will get your package or fish next day before 5pm.

The pike cichlid was 7 inches and I didn't feed him for 2 days before sending him off. I used a regular medium sized fish bag which housed him comfortably. I dropped off the Pike at 4pm on the Thursday as pick ups were at 5pm. Later that evening I checked the tracking number and everything seemed normal.

Next day the Purchaser and I exchanged emails anticipating the delivery, which ended up not showing up before 5pm. We called Canada Post to no avail and it looked like they screwed up or were backlogged. Because the fish wasn't delivered on that Friday...next possible day for drop off would be Monday...so at this point we started writing off the fish and were super pissed. Personally it wasn't the money, it was the fact that such a beautiful healthy fish would die because of a screw up.

So Monday arrived and still no package and I finally got a hold of someone at the Post Office and they couldn't even tell me were the package was. I figured there was no way the fish could be alive or had a chance of living, so I refunded back the purchaser his money and that was that.

Late Tuesday afternoon (4:30 pmish) I get an email from the Purchaser saying that the package showed up....and that the Pike was Still Alive! I couldn't believe it because the fish was in a bag for 5 days (120 hours) . The Purchaser said that the pike was really weak and was breathing heavily when he put him into the tank. I was scared of ammonia poisoning and said it would take possibly a week before he was back to normal if the after effects wouldn't kill him.

Well its been a few days since and the Purchaser says that hes doing pretty well and is quite aggressive, stealing food from his Birchirs and beating up his Flower Horn....I'd say those are very good signs lol.

What I learned from all this was not to ship fish on a Thursday because if your package doesn't arrive on Friday, you're screwed. Also never ship the day after a holiday (I shipped the day after Canada Day) because the Post Office or any other delivery service will have to make up for the day they lost and are usually jammed with packages to deliver.

Lets here one of your horror stories....fish below is the fish I shipped....would've been a tragedy to lose such a nice fish over a screw up....at least this story has a happy ending :)
