Does anybody here own any monster goonch? Anything above 1foot? I've tried to raise these guys on three different occasions with all of them ending on death. I was just wondering if people have had success raising them.

You need a cold tank, a lot of current, and a lot of filtration.

What was your tank set up like? I know some on here have successfully kept them. There's also a few different species of bagarius.

Bagarius Bagarius - 10"ish
Rutilus - 40"ish
Suchus - 30"ish
Yarelli - 6-7 foot??? Maybe more??? Who knows, there's a lot of myth/legend around these. All I know is they get HUGE, and you'd need a big pond to house one.

I did cold water and had the current. I just had no luck.I'm not looking to raise these guys anymore. I was curious if anybody here had one bigger then a foot. I saw one on you-tube about three feet.

Egon on here has one that is something like 28-30 inches, maybe bigger now. Seen and feed it plenty of times. Thing is a beast.

Love to see that monster!! I have been looking to get one myself! ;)

yeah i've got 2 yarelli's both about 16-18 inches and doing great in a tropical set-up... love these guys, beautiful and very powerful beasts

I'm running bubblers in my 210 bare bottom tank. I keep the temps around 74 in the summer and it gets as low as 65 in the winter. I think the larger the Goonch gets the cooler the water needs to be (or the more important cooler water is) for the O2 concentration. Warm water holds less O2. They need highly oxygenated water, not necessarily high flow but it helps. Warm waters O2 concentration limits out lower than cold waters O2 concentration no matter how high the flow is. Also a larger fish has more mass vs. gill/lung capacity requiring higher O2 concentration to maintain.
