ok so my dad said i can put a tank in the guest room:headbang2 and i am gonna do Tanganyikan cichlids:naughty:. so i want to throw in a tang spiny eel, so i want to see yours!!! now can we get tank size, tank mates. also anyone know where i can get one? like what vendors or websites?

This is my M. elipsifer. He's about 6 inches long and lives in my 29 gallon planted tank/ He's staying in there until he's big enough to move to the 80 gallon. Right now he's in with some calvus and a C. brichardi, along with some endlers for dithers. I got mine from http://www.davesfish.com/. Great guy to deal with! When I got my eel he was already eating frozen food so I had no trouble getting him to eat.
Pictures! I don't have any recent ones. He's gained weight and grown an inch since these were taken. I'm going to take a video soon of him being hand fed.

nice he looks very healthy. i was just on another website reading about them, and it said they are highly territorial. is this true?

I'm not sure. I only have 1 and he ignores every other fish in the tank. I don't know how he would feel if I had more than 1.

o. hey are you the onnly one on here with a tang spiny? if so you wont be for long!!! the 75(or possibly 55 breeder) should be up by next summer(sorry its a long wait, but the guest room wont be done till march). they are just soo cool

Nitrate shouldn't be that high anyway.

Yes, many fish keel over at around 100 ppm or more and no, it shouldn't be that high but many people never check their nitrate and as many people check infrequently they allow their tests to go out of date, when nitrate tests get old they read low.

I have found that a lot of people check theirs a few times in the first year and do not check again. Water supplies can run at around 40ppm in bad areas and an established tank with a slip in water change regime can slowly creep up.

My Ray tank runs below 20ppm:D
