Here are mine. USA made Penns. From left to right; 712z, 550ss, 550ss, 704z and 706z. I like these reels because they are built like tanks. They take the toughest saltwater fishing conditions one can throw at them. Unfortunately Penn no longer makes any of these reels nor do they even make reels in the USA anymore. :( However, it is relatively easy to find parts for them and they are easy to work on if needed. I love my Penns!

So, lets see em guys...

Damn! That more $ in line then the reel! I cant do braid except for certain offshore applications. Only mono on my pier setups. I have 300 yards of 15# test on my 704z and 300 yards of 20# test on the 706z. Ande backcountry of course.

Are you coming down this weekend?

Great looking rigs fellas.

aussiemonsters, your handle is one the wrong side. Oh wait, youre down under, even your toilets flush backwards down there! :nilly:

I use these ole penns because I am ROUGH on my gear. Yeah they arent as smooth as the high end shimanos and diawas nor have the instant anti-reverse features but after stripping the main gear on my 2 year old Sustain on a damn baitfish, I gave up and bought up these guys. One of the Penn 550ss Ive had since 1993 when I was just 8 years old. Believe it or not I cleaned it for the first time this year and after all those trips to the beach and being dropped in the sand the damn thing is still running strong! :headbang2

aussie, did the Penn 706Zs ever get popular down there? They are like gold here one the Gulf Coast and are selling for about 3x the price they were new!

706Z'S were never that popular here. The ss's are legendendry have a 750ss that I bought in 84 still going strong dont use it much the Saltiga is less than half the weight and just as tough.
Sustains are crap IMO only good Shimano is a Stella.
