So i bought a 75g tank not too long ago but I currently have no room to set it up, but that is about to change and I was gonna see what you all thought of what my brainstorming has come up with.

For a substrate I have fallen for eco complete. I was thinking 4 bags originally but then thought maybe 5 so i can make some different elevations in the tank. There are the 20lb bags of course.

As for filtration im still debating.
Option 1: Fluval 406 and a large sponge filter

Option 2: DIY wet dry system. I love DIY project but not too keen on the drilling of the tank.

I already have the heaters. I will be heating with 2 fluval 150w reflective heaters.

So what do you guys think?

2 150 w heaters should be fine,as far as filtration ,whats the stock gonna be?as far as substrate I would thik 80 lbs. should do it ,but I'm not sure about how the eco complete looks I have 0 experience with it

Not quite sure what stock me and the girlfriend are wanting to do. We were debating whether or not to get a pair of angelfish and build around them or do some sort of community tank.

for an angelfish community, option 1 would do,the angels like low flow,so can -sponge filter combo should be perfect! if you go option 2 an overflow box could work for you rather than drilling

Personally I think that much eco-complete is a waste of money. Use layers. Put a layer on top soil on the bottom, then some eco complete, and then top it off with some PFS. What kind of lighting and plants are you looking at? co2?

We have decided that we are going to go with the angelfish idea, so would a fluval fx5 be too much current because i may be getting one of those super cheap.

White15:
By top soil are you talking about the stuff you get in the gardening section at walmart? Also I will be getting my supplies on the cheap being as i work at a petstore, So my eco compete wont break the bank. How would i do the layering in lbs of each substrate?

As for my lighting im gonna either get a t5 setup or go with my DIY clamp work light with 6500k CFL bulbs. The plants so far that i will have are Jungle val, spiralis, dwarf baby tears, anubias' and hairgrass. I am currently looking for some plants to add a little color to the tank, so any suggestions on some colorful plants?
