I'm extremely tempted to add one on my tanks.

It scares me that this could make its way inside the main display though. In sw macros will pop up Will this do the same?

Generally speaking no it shouldn’t spread to the main display. You make the conditions more favorable in the scrubber so it grows there instead.

I do my own version I guess. I let the back glass just go and it covers with algae I just scrape some off every now and then to remove.
I like the idea of moving it to the sump though. It would make the main display look cleaner.

I have a sump that is in essence, an algae scrubber, it sits in direct sun good part of the day, and all exposed media gets covered in algae.fullsizeoutput_14f5.jpeg
The algae has not migrated to the main tank, other than the normal kind of algal film that grows on the glass. I also take handfuls frequently from the sump to feed the cichlids.

This algae scrubber of sorts has been in service since the tank started, and I have yet to get detectable nitrate reading using my API test kit. (still do frequent water changes though)

I guess it's already there anyway and will show up if your nutrients are high even without the scrubber so it probably doesn't matter.

This is what I'm thinking. I need to prescreen my pump inlet and skimmer (as only).
