Lets talk drip systems!

I have a 470g with 135g sump. Gonna be stocked with 3 rays and asian arowana.. im gonna setup a drip system. Planning on around 50g per day drip. Would you want to add a carbon filter in line? Or figure its a small enough amount to not worry about chlorine/chloramines?

The sump is already drilled and plumbed with an overflow to my main sewer. Just need to plumb in my water line. Tank just finished cycling so im ready to start.

I think this depends a lot on the amount of chlorine in your tapwater. I've had it all from pristine spring- to literal poolwater.

If you can do regular water changes without dechlorinating, I think it should be fine. But if chlorine is noticeable in your tapwater you should go with a Filter.

And be careful to stock slowly and introduce a good set of filter bacteria, 3 rays will put a heavy load on them.

All depends on ur source water… ive been running 10+ yrs with no pre filtration on my drip lines. Theres chlorine in my water. The big one is chloramines tho. People with the most problems have chloramine or live in farm areas where there source water already has nitrates from chemicals. In those cases you would need resin cartridges and also carbon in ur drip lines.

Also my “rule of thumb” is 1 gph for ever 100 gallons for starters. Ive dripped much more for tanks when i kept and bred rays. Ur drip amount depends on stock. 50 gal a day is good for starters as newly setup tanks tank longer to cycle and seed media while dripping. I would def. recommend 90-100 gal a day for ur system.

Again 1gph per 100gal… u want to be over 100% of ur total volume weekly. I have a 450,500 and 650… all are currently at 4gph with very low stocks. The same 3 tanks have been at 6gph and 8gph when i had rays/heavier stocks. Highest i ever went on 500g was 10gph and it was just fine.
